Makeup Musings: Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette

I’m not a beauty vlogger or a makeup artist by any stretch of the imagination. I do, however, enjoy putting on makeup for a big event as much as the next chica! Although I’m still getting the hang of contouring, I love the Kat Von D Contour Palette I purchased at Sephora. The colors look like they would work on a range of complexions. I’m fair-skinned with golden undertones, so I do realize there are a lot of brand options for me, but I am optimistic that this brand works on a wide spectrum of hues because the photo on Sephora’s Kat Von D brand profile page features models of a multi-culti array of skin tones. I love brands that celebrate diversity and have a good selection of products for my darker, melanin rich beauties.

Applying the powders with a brush worked well. I blended the pigments using a combination of techniques with brushes and a Beauty Blender sponge. That the kit comes with drawings to help those of us who don’t do this for a living is a huge bonus. It was much easier to figure out where to place the shading to achieve the desired effect. There are six contouring shades to choose from. I used the lightest powder to soften the shadows under my eyes. Although I layered this over my base foundation, I plan to try it on its own one day.

I usually take this with me when I travel, whether its for Carnival or other special events; I’m often on-the-go. Luckily, the powders are durable and haven’t gotten cakey or crumbly. It’s a sleek, attractive, yet sturdy palette that should last a while. And at the $45-$50 range, depending on if you want the standard palette or the refillable one, it’s comparable to other popular contour kits I’ve seen online. Not a steep price for a quality product and well worth the consideration to add to your beauty bag of tricks!
