Where to Stay: Infinity On the Beach Resort, Barbados

Looking For New Digs

While in Barbados for Crop Over 2018, I ended up splitting my stay between two resorts. The second of the two, Infinity On the Beach, was a last minute Expedia booking and was located right next door to the first resort, making my switch a breeze for my last two nights on the island.

I checked in on Grand Kadooment Day, which, in retrospect, probably wasn’t the smartest thing, but the staff at Infinity let me stow my bags with them although I wouldn’t be checking in until much later. The lady at the front desk was super warm and helpful. They even accommodated me when I had to come back to the resort to grab makeup out of my luggage to fix my girlfriend’s makeup after a very bad experience with a MUA. After a long day of walking and wukking up on the road, I was finally ready to check into my new digs.

The Rundown

For less than a US$100 a night, I got a spacious room that felt more like a mini suite, with an expansive bathroom and a comfortable bed, all minutes away from my friend’s’ condo and within walking distance of some cool eateries and shops in St. Lawrence Gap. Colorful throw pillows on the bed brightened the decor. And the bathroom had plenty of counter space, good lighting, and a large mirror, which would make it perfect for spreading out cosmetics to apply makeup on carnival day! Also, the closet was located in the bathroom, which I thought was really cool.

This small but inviting resort is actually split into two buildings on opposite sides of the street, one on the beach side with a small pool, the other—where a larger pool serves as the centerpiece of a delightfully intimate courtyard—is situated adjacent to an athletic field.

I stayed in the poolside building up three flights of stairs. Since my stay was so short, I didn’t really get to explore or enjoy the property the way I wanted to or take more pictures. Lining the walls on the lobby floor were some beautiful paintings. One of a sea turtle caught my eye. I assumed they were painted by local artists.

There were many other guests soaking up some sun or playing in the pool. And the poolside bar features a tempting array of local appetizers, specialty cocktails, and other tasty treats.

Mingling at the Resort

I ended up going across the street into the main building. I had a substantial and delicious Bajan breakfast there earlier in the day. After taking care of some paperwork for work, I planted myself at the bar just in time for Infinity’s daily happy hour. During happy hour guests are treated to two drinks for the price of one. While I waited for my girlfriend to join me, I met several other guests including Liam and Steve from the UK (Liverpool, to be exact). They were super friendly and chatted with me for a few minutes before returning to their buddies.

From the bar and the dining area, you can look out on a pretty stretch of Dover Beach. I turned my gaze to the sea from time to time while drinking my rum punch and checking out the scene.

I decided to order the split pea and herb soup while waiting. My friend arrived just in time for the saltfish fritters they were passing around to the guests. We hung out a bit longer before leaving to have dinner at a cool spot nearby.

The Verdict

Besides giving guests a very cool boutique resort experience, what Infinity on the Beach does best is creating a festive and welcoming experience. Guests can feel free to mingle with others and simply be themselves. With their hip and charming accommodations, a friendly and attentive staff, and great food, I’d highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for an affordable hotel in Barbados without sacrificing quality or comfort.
