Carnivalistas Need Excellent Skincare Products
If you’re reading this right now and follow my blog, it’s most likely because you’re a carnival lover. Therefore, it’s probably safe to say you enjoy warm weather activities since most Carnivals take place in hotter regions or during the summer months. You’re probably also very aware of the damage the sun can do to skin over time, even more so if you’re on the lighter end of the melanin spectrum (there’s a reason for the saying “Black don’t crack!”). So skincare is really important. To those of us who use sunscreen religiously, kudos!—I wish I were more disciplined. And while I’m doing better about wearing sunscreen, especially when I’m at Carnival, I’m sure I’m not alone in needing to repair some of the damage that’s already been done to my skin from menacing ultraviolet sun rays. Sun damage accelerates aging and breaks down the collagen that keeps skin supple and wrinkle-free. I’m not only a carnival chaser, I’m a youth chaser as well.
Searching For My Next Fix
So I found myself at the end of last year needing to purchase some products in order to retain my Sephora VIB Status and decided it was probably as good a time as any to invest in a new skincare serum. I am, and always will be, a fan of Dr. Dennis Gross’ skincare line. But I wanted to try something new, with limited ingredients and preferably cruelty-free. A search on Sephora led me to a brand called Youth to the People. Catchy name, I thought.
What’s In It?
When scanning the list of ingredients, I was excited to see kale at the top of the list. I mean, I knew it was good for your skin from the inside, but the outside too? Hmmm. Additionally, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and Tripeptide 37 were the other three of the four main components. Vitamin C is a building block of collagen and necessary to maintain the healthy production of it in the body. Hyaluronic acid helps skin to retain much more water than it normally would, keeping skin hydrated and smoothing fine lines. I’d hear of tripeptides before and wasn’t sure what it did. I later learned it basically helps to build collagen as well. After reading its origins as a family run small business in California and finding out they don’t test on animals, I was sold!
Everything about the brand’s philosophy relates to using the purest ingredients, the melding of superfoods and science, and sustainability, as I soon learned when my package arrived. Their products come in recycled brown cardboard packaging and glass bottles.
My Results
As if I wasn’t in love enough already, after the very first use (at night after washing and drying my skin before bed), I awoke to refreshed skin that felt clean and clearer. The serum itself is very light and absorbs into the skin very easily. I’ve mostly been using it on its own, and I have seen an improvement in fine lines. Although I don’t use it as often as I should (suggested usage is twice a day), I’ve seen improvement. I think the product helps my skin shed old cells during the renewal process, so in these colder months, my skin feels a bit drier and I had some flaking. But I’m sure that’s also because I don’t always put a moisturizer on over it (most serums are made to be layered under face cream, especially at night).
The Verdict
At $62, this product isn’t cheap, but it’s affordable compared to other luxury skincare brands. And it works! Plus it helps me sleep a little easier at night knowing that they don’t harm animals to make these products. That equals better beauty rest for me!
I’ll definitely be trying more of the products in their line, so stay tuned for future reviews.
